Oona Castro is a digital rights activist and journalist from Brazil. She is currently the Director for institutional development at Instituto Nupef, a Brazilian non profit organization that develops projects making innovative use of ICTs to address social justice and democracy. Oona holds a Master’s Degree in Social Communication from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She was director of the Wikimedia Catalyst project in Brazil and executive director for Instituto Overmundo, which sheltered the Overmundo culture collaborative portal, created in 2006. She has also worked for the Center of Technology and Society of Fundação Getulio Vargas RJ and for the British Council in Brazil. She is a co-founder and a volunteer at Intervozes.
