
Perse(phone) Hooper Lewis is the Honouring Our Guardians Coordinator at Whose Knowledge?. Perse is a citizen of the Yomba Shoshone Tribe, located in the mountains of present-day Nevada. Deeply committed to Indigenous activism, tribal sovereignty, and Nation-building, she is a community-based consultant, educator, relative, and Newe language learner. Her career has included leadership positions in higher education, Indigenous education programs, and social and behavioral health services. She holds BA degrees in Sociology and Ethnic Studies from UC San Diego and an MA degree in Nonprofit Leadership & Management from the University of San Diego. Currently in her fourth year of a PhD program in the Education Studies Department at UC San Diego, Perse’s research focuses on Indigenous Land-based education efforts, climate justice, and Indigenous womxn activism and leadership. She is married to Earlton Lewis from the Gila River Indian community and resides on Akimal O’odham, Kumeyaay, and Newe ancestral lands throughout the year.
