February 23: we just launched the State of the Internet’s Languages report

14 ফেব্রুয়ারী 2022

We just launched the first ever State of the Internet’s Languages (STIL) report on February 23rd!

We invited our fabulous co-authors, translators, reviewers, and all friends who made this project happen, to this launch party, with our different communities. The STIL report has been an extraordinary community-sourced effort, with nearly one hundred people involved, and this will be our first opportunity to introduce its findings and contributions to the world.

The event took place on Zoom, with simultaneous interpretations in multiple languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, Bangla and Arabic. The recording of the live stream is available on our Youtube channel, and will be later shared in the different interpreted languages.

We would love for you to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and help us share the report widely!

Our wonderful co-contributors Ana Alonso, Claudia Soria, Ishan Chakraborty, Josia Paska Darmawan, Martin Dittus, and Puthiya Purayil Sneha joined us as panelists. Also invited as speakers were our friends Hillary Juma, from the Mozilla Foundation, and Mandana Seyfeddinipur, from Berlin Brandenburgische Academy of Sciences!

We were in conversation through 3 sessions:

  • Stories and Contexts, going deep into our lived language experiences
  • Numbers and Patterns, going broad with the patterns we’re seeing
  • Calls to Action, an open conversation on our actions together

So grateful to all who joined us, and looking forward to building a more truly multilingual and multimodal internet together.

In love, respect, and solidarity,
