“How do we look at the stretch of colonial capitalism, and I put those two words very meaningfully and intentionally together, because often we talk about colonization on the one hand, and we talk about capitalism on the other — they are very much a stretch of the same historical processes. Race was a construct to justify colonization, capital comes out of the resources that were extracted from our peoples, our lands, our bodies, and our memories, and our ways of knowing and doing, and that is the empire that continues to be driving capital today.”
