Our Language Justice coordinator, Claudia Pozo, participated in the panel “Tuk Gwet: Fixing the Digital Future for Societies Excluded by Language” at the World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2023. Panelists also included Emmanuel Ngué Um (University of Yaoundé 1 and University of Bertoua, in Cameroon), Parameswari Krishnamurthy (International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, India), Onyothi Nekoto (computer scientist from Namibia), with the moderation of Martin Benjamin (Kamusi Project International, Switzerland). In their conversation, they examined language equity in the digital space through the lens of a concept described in the Basaa language of Cameroon: tuk gwét. Tuk gwét refers to waging war against injustice in order to repair, with the aim of preventing it from happening in the future.
