How to give and get consent for images on Wikipedia

You can only upload images to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia if you:

> own the rights to the image, or

> have explicit permission from the owner of the picture.

If you’re uploading an image that someone else owns, you’ll need to demonstrate that you have their permission to release it under a free license.

This resource explains how to upload an image that someone else owns, whether it belongs to an individual or an organization.

“Giving consent for images on Wikipedia” is part of the VisibleWikiWomen Campaign Kit. Find more resources and information about the VisibleWikiWomen campaign in our Whose Knowledge?/VisibleWikiWomen meta wiki page.
